Maybelline The Falsies Big Eyes Mascara - Review

A few weeks ago, I was passing by Boots and of course I HAD to go in. I'd been wanting to get a new mascara for ages as my Maybelline The Great Lash mascara wasn't working wth my lashes. And when I was looking at the Maybelline counter for the billionth time in my life, I saw an advertisement for this new mascara, Big Eyes. I'd hear about this a week or so before and since I'd not tried The Falsies mascara (shock horror) I wanted to give it a go - not to mention that I got it for for £6.99 instead of it's original price as a promotional offer!

I have fairly small eyes and lots of different mascaras look silly on me, but this one works! It really opens my eyes up and makes my lashes look pretty without looking too full-on. Because of its two different wands, my top and bottom lashes can both be lengthened without looking stupid on me.

The Upper Lash wand starts of quite thin at the tip but then thickens as it reaches the end which is used for your outer-corner lashes. I really like this as is makes your lashes look long and volumized but in a natural way due to the gradient of the wand.

As for the Lower Lash wand, the bristles are quite far apart but still manage to get to the tiniest of lashes, opening your eyes up even more. I only use one swipe/coat of this for everyday otherwise I find it makes my eyes look more smokey with more coats without it needing to be.

All round, I think this mascara is really great for anyone because even if you think you have quite big eyes anyway, it will only enhance them and really show them off. It keeps my lashes curled all day or night and is a great alternative to having The Falsies and a separate bottom lash mascara for your eyes.

Have you tried this mascara yet? If so, let me know in the comments!

Ciao!

My Favourite SS14 Campaign

As you're flicking through a magazine, the thing that makes you stop and look at what's on a page has to be something pretty spectacular. Dolce & Gabbana do this for me.

I've always loved their campaigns and I can't pin-point the main reason I love them so much, all I know is that I could look at the pictures for hours. I love how it isn't always serious with serious poses. They almost take everyday Italian family-life and make it more glamorous. Not that I have any idea what family-life in Italy is like, but these campaigns make me want to lead and Italian lifestyle!

The models are absolutely beautiful, Italian people - even the chickens are attractive! The clothes are incredible - as well as the accessories! The scenery is breathtaking. It's these elements that make me want to buy Dolce & Gabbana clothes, accessories - everything! Just so I can lead this Italian life - keep dreaming.

The advertising is so clever and really does entice you. D&G, your work is done.

Night Out Essentials!

As women, I feel that we take pride in our appearance, especially on a night out. You've gotten all glamed up feeling great and the last thing you want is for one of your spots to appear or for you to be smelling of something unfortunate after dancing a little too hard on the dance floor! There are definitely specific beauty items that qualify as necessary on nights out.

My clutch that I love to take is very wide but at the same time very thin, therefore I don't like to take every piece of make-up that I may only need - I've narrowed it down to 5 key-items.

Mascara. Although this mascara is by far my favourite and is long-lasting, I always want to make sure my lashes are voluminized all evening! This is a new release by Maybelline - Big Eyes Mascara. It's proven to be fantastic so far!  I didn't have to re-apply this all night because it lasted so well, but there may be a friend who forgets to apply mascara and needs a product like this to vamp up the lashes! - Full review here

Oh Benefit, you've got me. I actually got this for free with an Elle magazine luckily so it is the mini version but perfect to pop in your bag! This doesn't feel sticky at all, it leaves a lovely glossy finish on top of a lipstick. You of course can opt to carry your lipstick with you, but I'm always afraid of the old lipstick-on-your-teeth look. This is a great alternative. Benefit Hoola Lipgloss in Ultra Plush, a nude with slight blush-y undertones.

This concealer is so good at concealing any redness or horrible spots so and essential on nights out to hide any blemishes! It comes in a slim cylinder tube and brilliant for popping in your clutch bag!
Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory.

We all need a little spritz of perfume on one of our girly bathroom trips. But, all our perfume bottles are too big to carry round in little clutches. My solution - take little tester bottles. Unfortunately this Tommy Girl tester isn't a spritzer, but one that you have to pour (very cautiously) onto your wrists. If you aren't keen on this idea, plenty of perfume counters have mini spritzer testers which are ideal for your clutch!

The last essential is blotting sheets. Now, my packet looks pretty horrible after being carried around everywhere so I decided not to take a picture. However, the sheets inside the packaging are fab. They don't remove your make-up, just the excess oils on your face leaving no shine without having to use powder. There are so many of them in any drugstore and they aren't even expensive and will last months of partying! The ones I have are some by Kleenex and I know that Boots have their own brand blotting wipes for a really affordable so go have a look!

I hope this has amused you in some way. Til' next time!

Socks & Sandals - Who'd have thought?!

What are your views on wearing socks with sandals? I used to instantly think of my dad's holiday fashion faux-pas, considering the warmth of his feet rather than his style. It really is embarrassing having to walk around in a foreign country, especially one like France - The Country of Chic, with your dad committing a fashion crime.

Well, ladies this summer - fear not, your male relatives may well be following a trend... Crazy right? Don't think your mentality has slipped when you start following your father's trend!

I feel that any type of ankle sock can make a pump or boots look sweet. And now, darker shaded socks (preferably grey), paired with a strapped sandal is what Elle says to add a "fresh, playful feel" to the dungaree dress.

If you look at this picture long enough, hopefully you'll see that the look isn't actually so bad - it isn't quite the style of our old man that we were expecting... Take time to think about it. Would you wear socks with sandals?

Let me know what you think about this new trend for SS14 in the comments.

I'd like to also apologise for the poor amount of blog posts in January. Everything gets super busy and there's never a time to stop and write sometimes. I'm hoping February will be a late fresh-start!

Pip pip, cheerio!
